Observation 10107: Leratiomyces ceres (Cooke & Massee) Spooner & Bridge

When: 2008-08-26

Collection location: Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: George Riner (mycogeo)

No specimen available

It looked like a Stropharia and I searched for red/orange capped stropharias and came across the Leratiomyces name change. From the other photos on the internet (and on MushroomObserver) this one is like the others – growing in mulch (like a Stropharia) and having the campanulate red/orange cap and smoky purplish/green gills.

There are dozens coming up in the mulch in the landscaping on the north side of Darwin (near Toast).
