Observation 10344: Fungi Bartl.

When: 2003-09-13

Collection location: Cape Lookout State Park, Tillamook Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Photos were taken at Cape Lookout State Park, Tillamook Co., OR. Fungi was found near the park ranger kiosk, on top of a treated 8×8 post supporting a sign, which may have been replaced by now. Fungus resembles Steccherinum, but is not S. ochraceum shown in Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms. Notation under S. ochraceum states: “…it is one of severl stalkless tooth or spine fungi.” This fungus has teeth or spines approximately 1/4 inch long, with a spreading habitat sometimes spreading away from the host (post). I’m open to suggestions.
