Observation 10605: Laetiporus sulphureus (Bull.) Murrill

When: 2008-08-07

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Big, conspicuous yellow brackets on a fallen tree. The second photo shows just how conspicuous — it was taken from the trail without using a telephoto lens.

The third photo shows the fungi after two weeks had passed. They had dried out and withered. Laetiporus sulphureus does not have a very long shelf life — no pun unintended. :)
