Observation 10625: Russula Pers.

When: 2008-08-09

Collection location: Southern Quebec, Quebec, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

The colors — pale, with a purplish center to the centrally-depressed cap — are interesting. It was in wood detritus in mixed woods in cottage country in Quebec, within a mile of the Ottawa River, after rain. It was not clear whether it was growing from wood or from the ground. It was small, the size of my thumb.

seems possible. I never got a close enough look at it to be sure; it was threatening rain. The colors are certainly striking though.

Couldn’t it be a small Russula?
