Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Notes:
Brown with white, small tubes and white, somewhat lobed and irregular stem, on wood, about the size of my fist. On a fallen log in mixed woods after rain.

Boletus mirabilis looks similar and is reported from Michigan, but is not reported from farther east according to my field guide, and has a darker stem. It grows on fir, hemlock, and some other non-pine conifers; the only conifer growing where this was found is pine. It may be a closely related species though.
