Observation 10714: Amanita Pers.

When: 2008-08-22

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

There may be white flecks on the cap near the margin, so it may be some variety of Amanita muscaria, but I’m not sure.

In two of the photos a polypore (obs. 10713) is visible.

Long gone

That mushroom is long gone — this observation is over a month old.

My own suspicion is A. flavoconia or close relative. The wide-angle photo shows that it’s fairly small and low to the ground. The fly agarics I’ve seen in that area are considerably larger and (especially) taller than this thing was.
