Observation 10721: Lactarius uvidus var. montanus

When: 2008-08-19

Collection location: Jemez Mountains, Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA [Click for map]

Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)

No specimen available

Found under spruce, d. fir, and aspen. There was 15 min between the last two photos, showing the staining of the gills when cut. The staining was rather slow(ish), but it might not have been that slow, maybe 5-10mins to develop the purple stains.

I got the name L. uvidus var. montanus from the “Mushrooms of Colorado” by V. S. Evenson, she seems to suggest that is the more proper name for the montane version of these.
