Recognized by sight: Helene M.E. Schalkwijk-Barendsen’s Mushrooms of Northwest North America, p. 30-31. The pine needles near-by indicated Lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) in close proximity. Plus the small stature and animal mycophagy (bites), all point to this widely abundant smallish fungi.
