Observation 11090: Panaeolina foenisecii (Pers.) Maire

When: 2008-09-13

Collection location: Strouds Run State Park, Athens, Ohio, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dan Molter (shroomydan)

No specimen available

These were growing in a grassy are near a stream. I would normally dismiss these as Panaeolina foenisecii, but the dark band prompted a closer look. There have been reports of Panaeolus subbalteatus from grassy areas in Ohio that are frequented by geese. These might be what people are finding and calling “Pan subb”.

If I find them again I will try to remember to get a spore print.

Habitat? Gills? Looks like small Panaeolus or Coprinus but without more information it is difficult to tell for sure.
