Observation 1110: Ramaria leptoformosus

When: 2006-11-24

Collection location: Wilder Ridge, Humboldt Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Nathan Wilson (nathan)

No specimen available

Notes:
I’m not completely satisfied with the color in these shots. They all seem more intense than the specimen was. The tips where distinctly yellow and the stalk was a light pinkish orange. I haven’t had a chance to try to color correct the images.

As far as the id goes, it’s based on the key in Mushrooms Demystified. It also might be R. formosus. I did notice a slight brown stain when I cut it, but I didn’t know if that was enough to really indicate that it was R. formosus.

Overall it was very poor collecting in southern Humboldt county this year. I believe the reason was an early cold snap which shutdown most of the mycorhizal species.
