Observation 1114: Hygrophorus Fr.

When: 2006-11-25

Collection location: Sanctuary Forest, near Whitethorn, Humboldt Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Nathan Wilson (nathan)

No specimen available

Growing in grass. Identified by sight and somewhat confirmed in Mushrooms Demystified. It did have a distinct pinkish flesh tone which suggests it might be C. rivulosa based on the comments in Mushrooms Demystified. However, the caps did not seem rivulose.

The specimen was collected as part of a class I taught for the Sanctuary Forest. Overall it was very poor collecting in the Briceland area this year. I believe the reason was an early cold snap which shutdown most of the mycorhizal species. This list are species that were actually found in the Sanctuary Forest. There is a separate list for specimens that were brought to the class for identification.
