Observation 1122: Postia caesia group

When: 2006-11-25

Collection location: Sanctuary Forest, near Whitethorn, Humboldt Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Nathan Wilson (nathan)

No specimen available

Notes:
I did not take a spore print, but if you assume it has the correct spore color (blue or bluish-gray) then it keys out in Mushrooms Demystified as Tyromyces caesius. This name is synonymized with Postia caesius in the Index Fungorum. Oligoporus caesius is also listed as a synonym.

This observation
has a photo of what I believe to be the same species.

The specimen was collected as part of a class I taught for the Sanctuary Forest. Overall it was very poor collecting in the Briceland area this year. I believe the reason was an early cold snap which shutdown most of the mycorhizal species. This list are species that were actually found in the Sanctuary Forest. There is a separate list for specimens that were brought to the class for identification.
