Grew on edge of a trail in mixed oak/hemlock/mountain laurel forest. Grew in moss. 2 mushrooms grouped together, 2 others growing within 5 feet. Camp seems to flatten when the mushroom is older. Stalk firm, with orange – brown striations, smooth. Cap not viscid.

especially using a book with so many western species. This species usually is associated with hemlock. Austroboletus is a newer genus name.
