Observation 11619: Tricholoma (Fr.) Staude

When: 2008-09-25

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

This observation is about the mushroom on the left; the one on the right, apparently a Russula, is dealt with in obs. 11617.

Despite the silvery streaked cap, which I’ve seen on several local Cortinarius lately, this mushroom had pale gills and no indications of a cortina when upturned.

Especially interesting is that the gills look free, or almost so.

Found in damp mixed woods.
