When: 2008-10-01

Collection location: Pepperwood Preserve, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)

No specimen available

Fruiting in a cluster on a lawn. When found the pileus was convex, very dense. Gills were tightly packed and black but gray around the inner edges. The stipe was white with a slightly bulbous base which appeared to have rusty brown scaling. After a day in a moist environment the mushrooms were more or less melted and the spores were an inky puddle. Under the microscope I saw two different configurations of spores, as shown, with no staining.
