When: 2008-10-04

Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Observed in gravel at side of highway on Larch Mountain, Multnomah County, Oregon, at about 1700 feet elevation. The mushroom is buff brown with yellowish highlights, cap radially cracked, 1-2 inches wide; gills light buff brown; stipe solid, 1-2 inches long, buff brown to tan transluscent, with whitish scales on the stem just under the cap. I’m thinking this might be Alnicola melinoides, but I didn’t notice any Red alder immediately nearby. Could have been growing from buried wood, too.
