Observation 12029: Caloplaca ignea Arup

Striking, lobate, brilliant-orange crustose lichen, on limestone at top of Mt. Ventana. Distinguished from Caloplaca trachyphylla which is inland and has rough lobes; C. saxicola also inland, with apothecia developing initially near lobe tips; C. impolita which is only on non-calcareous rocks. Typically this should be redder.
