Observation 12043: Candelaria

When: 2008-10-05

Collection location: Southeast Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Notes:
Lichen is crusty, tiny, wrinkled, yellow. Also note tiny cup-like growths, which I didn’t notice until I looked at the photo at home. Cups have tiny stem, barely rising above the parchment-thin lichen, orange, with white edges where the edges are inrolled, or just orange where the cups have flattened (matured?). This looks like a Candelaria species in the center. I don’t know whether the cup-like structures also belong to the Candelaria or not.
