Observation 12080: Leccinum aurantiacum group

When: 2008-10-04

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

This was fairly large, with a dome shaped brown cap, white stem with conspicuous black scabers, and pale pores. The pores were quite small.

Photo 1: Top view of cap.
Photo 2: Side view of cap.
Photo 3: Bottom of cap. Again couldn’t get the pores to look three-dimensional — maybe they are very shallow. Something interesting was going on where the pore layer met the stem.
Photo 4: Scabers on stem, close up.
Photo 5: Whole mushroom, from the side.

Near the base of a pine.

Moss nearby had little orangish mushrooms, possibly Rickenella, some of which are visible in the fourth and fifth photos.
