Observation 12357: Russula Pers.

When: 2008-10-11

Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Couldn’t tell if the creamy to brown-staining or -bruising gills were natural or the result of a possible recent feeze. Cap looks maroon, somewhat striate at the edges, with a distinctive white margin; toning to velvet red to nearly black towards the center. Cap rather large, about 8 inches diameter (20 cm). I’d guess at least 8-9 inches tall.
