Observation 12639: Pyronemataceae Corda

When: 2008-10-09

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

These little orange cup fungi could have easily been overlooked. Each is maybe 1mm across. The “sticks” and “gravel” near them are pine needles and sand grains.

In sandy soil at the edge of a footpath, near the mystery Amanita’s pine woods.

Keep a very sharp eye out for little specks of bright color, or you may never see many of the tiny but colorful cup fungi that abound in the world.

Fifth photo is same as third, but taken several days later. These change little over time. Focus may be slightly better on the newer photo.
