Constricted volva, staining red.
Collected and displayed by Doug Smith.

Or…with that two-toned cap, and thick, red-staining volva,
could it really be a pachycolea with a constricted volva?

Darn it, the amanitas are not fitting neatly into their (our) categories, again!!!

Fer sure it’s a grisette; note long striations at caps edge, brown color.

I went back and forth on this ID, for years. But I might just agree with you here.
Any membranous volva can get a bit pinched with time. I have seen it in velosas, too.

And it does have the zonate cap. Both species can show the red staining, and only constricta shows little bits of UV on the cap, sometimes.
