This is an example of an old and weathered imbricatus, and it is unusually pale too. I think it can be a good idea to show others than just the ones with the ideal looks.
What you have in California is another question. I have a feeling that it’s more than one species you’re calling imbricatus.

sigh. if this is sarcodon imbricatus, then we have another misnamed sp. in CA.
