Observation 12827: Agaricales sensu lato

When: 2008-10-17

Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Notes:
Brown-gilled mushroom growing from well-rotting wood. I’ve got a photo of the cap on a different floppy disc. I believe it was dark rusty brown-red. Gills are much lighter brown. Cap: 2 inches wide; stipe: 1.5 inches tall.

Used references: Aurora’s Mushrooms Demystified. Looks nothing at all like Aurora’s color picture of this mushroom, but the gills are very similar. Aurora says the cap should be wine-colored, and the cap was kind of a burgundy red but with lots of brown. The edges of the gills are white. The stipe is perhaps 2 inches long, and about 3mm thick. Searched MO, but found not examples. Not known from Oregon, either.

Recognized by sight: The gills look like Inocybe. It would be nice to see the cap and other views.
Used references: Naucoria vinicolor was changed to Tubaria punicea. Click here to see photos on MO.
