Observation 13069: Lycoperdon molle Persoon: Persoon

When: 2008-10-23

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Puffball with vase-shaped bottom portion and hemispherical top with apical pore; dingy grey with small warts or spines; near Eastern white pine, jack pine, and birch; several scattered. The mature ones were a bit smaller than tennis balls and somewhat larger than golf balls — or let’s put it this way: hail that size would coax me to go out into it to put the car in the garage. :)

Spores apparently a powdery grey-brown to judge by what was visible around the pore mouths.

Second photo taken in the same general area Nov. 6.
