“Better known as Clitocybe squamulosa, this clitocyboid mushroom appears under conifers, primarily in northern and montane North America. It is quite similar to Infundibulicybe gibba, which grows under hardwoods, but the colors of Infundibulicybe squamulosa are somewhat darker, especially on the stem. According to Bigelow (1985) the typical variety is limited to eastern North America, and is replaced in the west by var. montana and var. sicca, which are separated microscopically (see below).”
