in collections I have made of this type pr similar types at this location. Some brownish staining has been observed.

Hopefully, I’ll make some collections of these types this summer. Seeing that there is some interest in discussing these elusive russulas is encouraging.

Once I had taken a small collection of russulas found in this location to the New Jersey Fungus Festival. Using iron salts, the late Ray Fatto IDed the collection of 5 specimens as representing 3 different species. I believe they were brunneola, xerampelina, and vesca. The xerampelina was a surprise, as I had not noticed any fishy odor. At the time, I had IDed them all as R. brunneola.
