Notes:
Growing on a dead Acer saccharum (Sugar Maple) stump. Fresh growth occurs in the spring and early summer, the old crust stays around for years.

Both Index Fungorum and MycoBank currently prefer Kretzschmaria deusta for this taxon.

It was the same color black and a little softer. I thought I had a photo but didn’t, will try to photograph it tomorrow.

Unsure this is the same as my U. deusta

Mine seems to be more coal black in color. Have you ever looked underneath it?
