Observation 132241: Catillaria chalybeia (Borrer) A. Massal.

comment at http://mushroomobserver.org/131488?q=1CZAS:

Just noticed a round cobble with Buellia stellulata that was being used as a paper weight also had something similar to Catillaria chalybeia. Realized that I have quite a few specimens from salt spray areas (including from some relatively polluted sites within Seattle) that seem to have the same combination. Brief examination of apo section seems to confirm. If correct this seems consistant with Smith et al. and Gilbert, but alters McCune’s note.

I’ll have to confirm this by examining apothecia etc. Besides Lummi Island I have specimens from Cypress Island, Lopez Island, Fidalgo Island, Whidbey Island and at least 2 places in Seattle.

the lichen is 7mm across
