Unfortunately there probably won’t be any. I found them like last November in Louisiana and they didn’t make it back home… I will be better prepared next time!

Gymnopilus sapineus

is a most likely a defunct name that has been misapplied to G. penetrans since Fries described it. Murrill based his concept off of Fries’ Agaricus sapineus.

Most NA observations of G. sapineus are either G. penetrans or a species that needs a new name. Can’t wait to see some microscopy for this obs!
