Easily confused with Amanita ovoidea, with which it often shares the same habitat in the Mediterranean-xerophile, the fundamental characteristics that allow an easy definition of Amanita proxima are the ocher volva, and ring clear and durable which falls to skirt on the stem. This is a very dangerous poisonous species that can be lethal.

Recognized by sight: These mushrooms were found and identified by Sardinian Amanita specialist, Salvatore Curreli, who with Ennio Giusti and Albert Casiero organized the Oct 2005 mushroom tour of Sardinia.
