Used references: Aurora’s Mushrooms Demystified, p. 541, under L. scabrum. Associated with Paper birch, a non-native species used in an ornamental planting. If this is L. snellii, it has hitched a mycorrhizal ride with the tree it was grown with. The only birch species native to Oregon is the Water birch. The nearest that tree gets to Portland is about 25 miles away in the Columbia Gorge.
