Observation 13829: Amanita pantherina group

When: 2008-11-08

Collection location: Marble Mountain Ranch, Siskiyou Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: John Harlan (harlanx6)

No specimen available

Notes:
It has a volva and bulb, cream white gills and just looks like Amanita to me, but I can’t ID it. It seems to have brown spores. I didn’t see an annulus.

Looks like there is a brownish-red stain around the worm holes. It’s definitely an Amanita. Normally I’d guess this is something near A. gemmata, but that discoloration has me thinking twice. Why do you think it has brown spores?
