MO obs. 141517, with black spore mass (gleba). Your obs. has gray spore mass.

Looks likely to be Scleroderma michiganense, Eva.

This is one that need microscopy for accuracy. It does look like S. areolatum, but the spore mass is gray.

Keys out readily in Kuo’s Scleroderma Key at, but couplet 6 and 7 require microscopy to be certain. Still, likely S. michiganense.
