Observation 14224: Armillaria (Fr.) Staude

When: 2008-11-14

Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Notes:
Large and robust clump of Armillaria, with distinctive split or double-ringed annulus. I’m betting that’s enough to identify this, but the mushrooms were up to 8 inches tall and have white scales on a dark reddish-brown stipe.

In Aurora, keys quickly to A. mellea group, but which one? That annulus should be definitive, but Aurora doesn’t mention any Armillaria with similar annulus.
