I’ve been finding these small fellas growing in the Pine Barrens since late July.
The largest one in a scattered family of 7-9 has a ~4 cm cap. The cap surface is smooth and glabrous. The stipe is concolorous with the cap, but paler. The milk is white, unchanging and mild. The gills have multiple forks and septa; short gills are abundant, too. I spent a while trying to find these in the Bessette milkcap book, but alas…
