Observation 14512: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray

When: 2008-11-23

Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Am currently taking a spore print. CAP: 2.7 inches wide (6-7cm), very dark brown to ruby-red, with fibrils or minute scales; GILLS: dark red to reddish-brown, slightly decurrent; STIPE: 1cm thick, 3.8 inches long (9.6cm), mostly even but with a slight bulb at the base, mostly light buff-tan, fibrilose, darker greenish-brown under cap, with white “dandruff” immediately below the gills, staining dark brown/black where bruised during handling. Suspect Cortinarius, but no sign of cortina that I can see.
