Observation 14515: Cantharellus formosus Corner

When: 2008-11-23

Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Notes:
The State of Oregon’s official state mushroom. This is a rather old specimen, found growing right next to the road. How it escaped earlier picking is an indication that even commercial pickers may intentionally (or otherwise) leave some mushrooms for spore-production. Oddly, Dr. Eric Danell who has cultivated C. cibarius has not been able to coax a spore-print from C. formosus, nor has he successfully cultivated this species to my knowledge.
