Mycorrhizal association with old-growth Black cottonwood. First time I’ve observed this.


In situ. Top of cap orange-brown, with white cracks. Looks eaten upon.
Big, bulbous meaty base. Stipe splotchy brown. Reticulation near top of stipe. Gills white to pale yellow, dark yellow or orange where predated on.
Reticulation near cap. Base of stipe with whitish rhizomorphs.
