Old Maid Flats is a fascinating place. Mostly scrub Lodgepole pine and Douglas-fir, Kinnikinick, and a plethora of lichens growing on rock, tree, and soil (if sandy gravel is considered soil). This whole area has been washed down from Mt. Hood, and while beautiful is treacherous. The creek swollen by 14 inches of rainfall 2 weeks ago washed out several homes.

Pink-purple cap. Rather large. In very poor, nearly pure rock, soil.
Pure white hymenium. Thick flesh.
Stipe up to 3 inches across, firm.
