Observation 151780: Naucoria bohemica Velen.

When: 2012-08-12

Collection location: Aptos, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Christian (Christian Schwarz)

Specimen available

Growing under ornamental birches in a lawn with the usual assemblage of Leccinum, Russula, Lactarius, etc.

Very warm orange-brown, rivulose, dry cap strongly hygrophanous, stipe kind of looked like Tubaria. Larger and less fragile (although not exactly robust) than some alternative genera (Pholiotina) etc.

I need to do a more critical comparison against N. salicis at least

The spores and cystidia distinctive, will post drawings later

I believe this is a first report for California.
