Mix of birch with conifers…

is one habitat where I find what I often call L. lignyotus. Most of my collections of this type feature a noticable amount of bright white latex that bubbles up on the cut gills.

Photo showing gills becomes a bit blurry in zoom.

Confusion of lignyotus with gerardii types is possible. The caps seen here look to be on the dark side for gerardii.
