I would guess that the largest caps might be about 6 cm wide. I already have a 10x lens in my camera bag. Perhaps I need a ruler and notebook as well.

I’ll stand by my first suggestion then.
Btw, don’t forget to take a (close) shot on the other side of the caps in the future, that makes it easier to decide if it’s a polypore or a corticioid fungus.

Extreme close-ups could make an ID complicated :-)
