but they are not truncate, anywhere.

I also sent samples home with Peter Werner, and hopefully he will dive into this more, esp. since he actually spends time looking at dark spored things, unlike myself!

Are there cryptic species within this group? Who knows? But the spore description that you cited certainly does not match up with these…roughened spores do fit the Lacrymaria (warted) vs Psaths (smooth).

Insofar as macro IDs, though, my instincts weren’t too far off, since these used to be considered Psaths.

Do you have spore sizes? Do the spores have a “distinct broad suprahilar depression” in the profile view and are they truncate at the apex or not? Pleurocystidia would be a nice feature to photograph as well.

Also, after looking at mushroom expert I’m not sure if L. lacrymabunda = L. velutina or not.

“Psathyrella velutina is a former name. Psathyrella/Lacrymaria lacrymabunda is seen as a synonym by some authors, but is separated by others on the basis of its smoother spores. A recent molecular study (Padamsee and collaborators, 2008) found specimens labeled “Lacrymaria velutina” to be genetically separated, suggesting that species concepts in Lacrymaria may need to be modified."

I don’t think Smith made this distinction in his Psathyrella book and neither does mycobank.
