Observation 153919: Amanita Pers.

When: 2013-11-28

Collection location: Manila Dunes, Manila, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: R Tripp (eyeprod)

No specimen available

Notes:
I found three of these beautiful pale rose colored amanitas on the steep edge of a dune where the sand meets a forest of large spruces. One was damaged, one was to hard to reach and this one was perfect.

I didn’t notice anything about the base other than the stem looked even and deeply rooted, possibly because of the steep hillside. No bulb of any sort was noticeable.

Can you tell us anything about the base of the stem?

The stem base is critical in separating the sections in Amanita.
