I found this mushroom on my front lawn on May 24th, 2008. There was no identifiable odor. I pulled the mushroom before taking the pictures (didn’t realize it was a mushroom at first), but it was black when it was in the ground – the picture was taken just a minute or two after pulling it.

Recognized by sight: this is pretty old to tell what genus but since it looks as if there is gill liquidation that surly puts on the genus Coprinaceae.
