Growing with A. muscaria, Boletus, Suillus under monterey pines over very decomposed roots from a dead tree. Ground was covered in heavy pine duff. It had snowed the previous night and some of the A. muscarias had discolored to sickly orange color, so perhaps the greyish color is due to frost.
