Recognized by sight: Gautieria ambigua States and Fogel nom. prov.
Peridium thin to absent exposing brownish gleba. Chambers of various sizes, .5 to 1.5 mm. Base sterile and columella present. Prominent rhizomorph. Dried soft and easy to section.
Based on microscopic features: Spores 10-15 × 6.5-9 µm, elliposid, costae, golden yellow.
