Proposed Names

60% (2)
Recognized by sight: Pretty clearly either a Boletales or possibly an Agaricales.
61% (2)
Recognized by sight: Viscid convex cap and general stature strongly suggest a Bolete to me, but without seeing the underside there’s no way to be sure.

shiny red heels of troll svamp-world. this is very cool, new to me, i have nothing to add, looks bolete-like to me too, and as danny says more angles would be good.

I was first alerted to this observation on the new Bhutan Biodiversity Portal (http://biodiversity.bt/observation/show/87). The speculation there was that this was probably a bolete which seems plausible to me. Suillus and something close to B. frostii were suggested, but I think both are unlikely given the stipe.

The observer was asked if there were photos of the underside which there sadly there aren’t and of course no specimen :(. Regardless, the features that can be seen do appear to be distinct from anything else I’m familiar with. Anyone else have any guesses?

Hopefully more complete observations will come in the future with a specimen.

A photograph of the underside of the mushroom is required for identification.
