Observation 15844: Heterotextus Lloyd

When: 2008-12-21

Collection location: Parque Nacional Puyehue, Los Lagos, Chile [Click for map]

Who: Jason Hollinger (jason)

This was growing all over the place in the subalpine to alpine. Smallish (up to 1 inch max), gelatinous, orange to reddish, generally pendulous, translucent interior, completely smooth (no fibers, hairs, texture of any sort). I assume this is a cosmopolitan species, probably even the same species I’ve seen in North Carolina… Growing on hardwood, mostly Nothofagus, of course, because that forms 90% of these forests!
